The 13th Great Adventure Challenge was held in the Kiama area on 22 May 2021. This event raises funds for the Starlight Foundation. Seventeen teams of eight competed, trying their hand at running, riding and swimming/Kayak.
The repeater at the Blowhole, Kiama was established the day before with ample time for testing. The event occurred the following day, commencing around 0900 and concluding at around 1630. The route for the event hugged the coastline.
The repeater system at the Blowhole covered from Shell Harbour to Gerringong. A “walk in” crossband was set up at Minnimurra to allow portable UHF coverage in the immediate vicinity. This high point was around 2.5m above the rear of the carpark at James Oates Reserve. From the carpark, the VHF coverage using a portable was fairly average but improved out of sight when operated from this high point.
The event is billed as a corporate challenge like no other. Teams use the event to encourage team work and camaraderie within their organisation while helping brighten the lives of those less fortunate.
